This is the culminations of emotion focused therapy embedded with person centered approaches utilizing meditative states to look inwardly for one’s own personal growth and development. “Meditation in the context of mindfulness-based interventions naturally inspires us to acknowledge and accept difficult thoughts and emotions in order to let go of them and focus our attention instead on sensory experience in the present moment”. In order to separate ourselves from our emotions and thoughts – we must create space, and this is made possible through this intervention itself. This approach allows for the exploration of thoughts and emotions while integrating thinking and feeling; addressing and resolving internal conflicts and unfinished business; and cultivating more fulfilling lives with the overall enhancement from meditations and therapeutic encounters.
Clinical Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness that is sometimes referred to as ‘trance state’. In clinical hypnotherapy the individual is completely aware of what is going on throughout the process. The purpose to achieve trance state, is to be able to influence mood, perceptions and behaviours.
There is common belief that hypnosis is theatrically based, however stage hypnosis to clinical hypnotherapy is to pornography to romance. The truth is that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, as the clinical hypnotherapist, I hold the role of a cheerleader, guiding the space, inviting individuals to embark on needed risks and next steps that they are ready for, while taking individualized ques from each client. This approach allows us to deepen awareness from what is held in the unconscious mind, pulling it to the subconscious mind, and bringing it to full awareness to the place of deepened conscious awareness.
Psychodrama and Sociometry
Psychodrama is an action method of psychotherapy, in which clients use spontaneous dramatization, role playing, and dramatic self-presentation to investigate and gain insight into their lives. This is a method developed by Jacob Levy Moreno – at its core, psychodrama delves in to explore and correct issues that have been identified in a group setting. Often there is a protagonist chosen whose issue represents the main elements of the group. The protagonist brings forward their drama and the group members of the group are brought in as auxiliaries to aid the dramatic enactment of the scene or scenes brought forward by the protagonist. The element of therapeutic correction while re-experiencing the issues, there is promise for dynamic improvement through expression, role rehearsal, creating new meaning, and bringing to light where there has been limitation in verbal articulation.
Sociometry comes from Latin roots implying that sociometry is a way of measuring the degree of relatedness amoung people. Measurement of relatedness can be useful in assessing behaviour within groups; interventions to assist in bringing out positive change for determining the extent of change. This can be a powerful tool for reducing conflict and improving communication because it allows the group to see itself objectively and to analyze its own dynamics. It also shows patterns of how individuals associate with each other when acting as a group toward a specified end or goal. Sociometry is also based on the fact that people make choices in interpersonal relationships, Moreno says, “choices are fundamental in all on-going human relations, choices of people and choices of things”.
